Imagine the most beautiful sunset you have ever seen. Now imagine that sunset being endless. These are our nights during summers here in Iceland. rom May to August we have up to 21 hours of daylight. The colours during the summer, the sunsets are purely magical mixing reds, pinks, oranges and purples.
Wind can get very intense. Our cottage were built with Icelandic weather in mind. You are safe with us. We advise our guests to check the national weather and road condition’s websites before planning a trip. When storms are announced we let our guests know and advise them on driving conditions.
Between the months of September and April, you can see beautiful phenomenas like shooting stars, the milky way and of course Northern lights. Stargazing from the bed, bathroom or the hot tub is truly a relaxing and a fantastic experience. During the summer, endless sunrises and sunsets. We are also very lucky to welcome hundreds of birds on our little stream.
Glass Cottages is a small family company. We are surrounded by 500 hectares of natural lava fields, Glass Cottages is a unique glass house dedicated to showcasing nature, the sky and ethical luxury.
More than a synthesis of tastes, the cottages offer the perfect antidote to the frantic pace of modern living.
We want to offer an extraordinary experience for our guests. Being in the heart of a 500 hectares lava desert, in an ecological cottage made of glass and wood.
Feel outside with the comfort of being inside. Our inspiration is ecology and respect for nature. The land is a paradise for birds of all species as we forbid any type of hunting.
The furniture was made from driftwood from Russia, collected from the beaches of Isafjörður. The cushions are hand-knitted, the wool dyed with natural products, comes from a rescue sheep farm.
The cottages consume almost nothing, the sun during the day serving as the main source of heat. We have our own well, and the water is one of the purest on earth. Our cottages are almost self-sustainable, eco, and vegan friendly.
Winter 2018, we were looking for a land to to build this crazy project. We met two farmers named Anna-Maria and Ari who believed in us and accepted to sell us a piece of this incredible lava desert. We decided to call the land Klettamörk in the honour of Pétur, the brother that we had never met… Since then, we did bring electricity and found water on Klettamörk. Imported these two glass cottages and installed them by a small stream of water. The rest is endless nights, stars, Northern lights and dreams…
MADE FROM SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS
Made of triple-layered glass and sustainable wood, there are two cottages called respectively Blár and Grænn, 200 meters apart from each other separated by small hills to ensure full privacy.
PRIVATE HOT TUB
Each cottage has its own private hot tub. Traditionally in Iceland, we have hot tubs not jacuzzis, the reason is that our hot tubs are a place for conversations and relaxation. We don’t have lights in the water either as it would make the observation the sky at night difficult.
A queen-size bed with luxurious organic cotton linen, towels, and bathrobes.
Bose music player for streaming your music, Wi-Fi, Air conditioning, and floor heating.
FULLY EQUIPPED KITCHEN
We have an induction stove, extraction, oven, fridge with a freezer compartment including Iced lava rocks, toaster, kettle, pans, pots and baking dishes, all cutlery is from Cutipol, dishes are from Raw. We also offer our guests all basic condiments like: oil, vinegar, sugar, salt, pepper, coffee and tea.
