Glass Cottages is a small family company. We are surrounded by 500 hectares of natural lava fields, Glass Cottages is a unique glass house dedicated to showcasing nature, the sky and ethical luxury. More than a synthesis of tastes, the cottages offer the perfect antidote to the frantic pace of modern living. We want to offer an extraordinary experience for our guests. Being in the heart of a 500 hectares lava desert, in an ecological cottage made of glass and wood. Feel outside with the comfort of being inside. Our inspiration is ecology and respect for nature. The land is a paradise for birds of all species as we forbid any type of hunting. The furniture was made from driftwood from Russia, collected from the beaches of ísafjörður. The cushions are hand-knitted, the wool dyed with natural products, comes from a rescue sheep farm. The cottages consume almost nothing, the sun during the day serving as the main source of heat. We have our own well, and the water is one of the purest on earth. Our cottages are almost self-sustainable, eco, and vegan friendly.
Winter 2018, Ari was looking for a land to to build this crazy project. He met two farmers named Anna-maria and Ari who believed in him and accepted to sell him a piece of this incredible lava desert. It’s during this time that Pétur, the brother that Ari never had a chance to meet, passed away. He decided to call the land Klettamörk in his honour. Since then, we did bring electricity and found water on Klettamörk. Built these two glass cottages and installed them by a small stream of water. The rest is endless nights, stars, Northern lights and dreams…

Sun

Imagine the most beautiful sunset you have ever seen. Now imagine that sunset being endless. This is our nights during summers here in Iceland. From May to August we have up to 21 hours of daylight daily. The colours during the summer nights are purely magical mixing reds, pinks, oranges and purples.

Night

The nights in Iceland can be long particularly in December. But we are usually spending them with friends and family. Nice dinners followed by board games and knitting are very common. We also like to surround ourselves with Christmas lights and decorations. We love to decorate the cottages for that time of the year.

Wind

Wind can get very intense. We advise our guests to check the national weather and road condition’s websites before planning a trip. When storms are announced we let our guests know and advise them on driving conditions.

Space

Between the months of September and April, you can see beautiful phenomenas like shooting stars, the milky way and of course Northern lights. Star gazing from a bed, bathroom or a hot tub is truly a relaxing and fantastic experience.

MADE FROM SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS

Made of triple-layered glass and sustainable wood, there are two cottages called respectively Blár and Grænn, 200 meters apart from each other separated by small hills to ensure full privacy.

PRIVATE HOT TUB

Each cottage has its own private hot tub, fully equipped kitchen (fridge, oven, stove, coffee maker, kettle, toaster). A glass bathroom where taking a shower looking at the volcanoes, stars, Northern lights is an unforgettable experience.

COMFORTABLE BED

A queen-size bed with luxurious organic cotton linen, towels, and bathrobes.
Sonos Player for streaming your music, Wi-Fi, Air conditioning, and floor heating.

ONE OF A KIND DESIGN

The decor and furniture are made using mostly materials found on the land, branches, lava sand. Also, driftwood found on the beaches of Ísafjörður. All made with the help of Icelandic craftsmen and artists.
