About Glass Cottages

Glass Cottages is a family-owned retreat nestled in 500 hectares of stunning Icelandic lava fields. Our unique cottages are crafted to blend seamlessly with nature, offering an experience that combines ethical luxury with the peace of untouched wilderness. Here, you can immerse yourself in Iceland’s beauty and let nature be the star of your stay.

Sustainable Living

Every detail of our cottages is designed with sustainability in mind. Built with triple-layered glass and eco-friendly wood, each cottage is almost self-sustaining, utilizing solar heat and fresh water from our private well. Inside, furniture crafted from driftwood, hand-knitted cushions from rescue sheep wool, and vegan-friendly amenities reflect our commitment to both comfort and respect for nature.

Our Story

In winter 2018, we began searching for land to bring our vision to life. With the support of local farmers, Anna-Maria and Ari, we found Klettamörk—a remarkable stretch of lava fields. Today, our two cottages, Blár and Grænn, rest by a serene stream, offering privacy and expansive views of Iceland’s natural wonders.

Experience the Icelandic Nature

Sun

Imagine the most beautiful sunset you have ever seen. Now imagine that sunset being endless. These are our nights during summers here in Iceland. rom May to August we have up to 21 hours of daylight. The colours during the summer, the sunsets are purely magical mixing reds, pinks, oranges and purples.

Night

The nights in Iceland can be long particularly in December. But we are usually spending them with friends and family. Nice dinners followed by board games and knitting are very common. We also like to surround ourselves with Christmas lights and decorations. We love to decorate the cottages for that time of year.

Wind

Wind can get very intense. Our cottage were built with Icelandic weather in mind. You are safe with us. We advise our guests to check the national weather and road condition’s websites before planning a trip. When storms are announced we let our guests know and advise them on driving conditions.

Sky

Between the months of September and April, you can see beautiful phenomenas like shooting stars, the milky way and of course Northern lights. Stargazing from the bed, bathroom or the hot tub is truly a relaxing and a fantastic experience. During the summer, endless sunrises and sunsets. We are also very lucky to welcome hundreds of birds on our little stream.
